In rebuttal to Maintenance, 7-31-2003: ("Andrew's post why?????????")
I do not know why.
Besides the "HEAD NUTS":
All chassis bolts and nuts must be tightened every 3,500 miles.
The spark plug must be replaced at 24 months interval, EVEN if the cycle was not ridden, BEING in STORAGE. ("Interval," page 34, owner's manual)
Before every ride (page 26 of owner's manual); the tires must be checked with a gauge for proper pressure, the fuel TANK CAP must be checked, The engine STOP SWITCH must be checked and so the side stand/ignition interlock checked.
The oil level has to be checked, (before each and every ride--- hard to do on a Savage).
The horn is to be checked before each ride, check each time that the front break has the correct fluid level,---- etc.----------------------.
The best one yet is to check the OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT!! Yes, that's what it says on page 26 of the OWNER'S manual.
How does one check an indicator light that is not there? Does one check to see that it is STILL NOT there?
Now that Suzuki has unloaded all of the responsibility, on the owner, "called covering their BUTT," for warranties and law suits, (DISCLAIMER ACTION) they drop a bomb, on us owners, by such statements as:
"Depending on the manufacturing tolerances of your specific frame,--- if the frame is a little on the small side from top to bottom, in the engine mounting area, or if one of the engine mounting bosses is a little off tolerance it will be impossible to remove the cylinder head cover, to check the head nuts! "It is suggested to remove the engine out of the cycle to check this maintenance." (PAGE 55, CLYMER'S MANUAL--Note 3)
